Vienna, 02 October 2012 Fekter on tax treaty with Switzerland: “I’m very pleased”

In her first public statement on the fact that there will be no referendum on the tax treaty between Austria and Switzerland, Dr Maria Fekter said: “We negotiated well. There are thus no further obstacles to entry into force of the tax treaty we signed in April of this year. Despite everything the prophets of doom and the naysayers have been telling us, the outcome we achieved in our negotiations rests on solid foundations. The treaty we achieved through our mutual efforts will take effect as planned.”

Fekter: “This is a good day for Austria. The Austrian government will now be receiving the taxes it is owed.” That tax money is particularly important in terms of our consolidation targets; these additional revenues, which were already reflected in the state budget, will be coming to Austria as planned. “The treaty is, and remains, a fantastic mutual success story and will be of significant assistance for our Austrian state budget”, Dr Fekter stated in closing.
