Vienna, 02 July 2012 Federal Ministry of Finance: Harald Waiglein new head of Directorate-General III Waiglein takes over the Directorate-General "Economic Policy and Financial Markets" at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance

The Federal Ministry of Finance has announced that Mr Harald Waiglein has been appointed the new head of Directorate-General III, "Economic Policy and Financial Markets", at the Ministry, and is thus taking the place of Thomas Wieser, who has moved to Brussels as president of the Euro Working Group and the Economic and Financial Committee. "Directorate-General III is the interface between Austrian and international economic and financial policy. Precisely at times of crisis, it plays a key role in overcoming the problems we face," says Waiglein, commenting on the new challenges ahead.

Before embarking on his career at the Federal Ministry of Finance, Waiglein, a father of two, worked as a finance editor for the Austrian state radio station Ö1, as well as being chief economics correspondent and deputy editor in chief at the Wiener Zeitung. Waiglein then assumed the role of Finance-Ministry spokesman, was in 2009 appointed by Josef Pröll as Ministry spokesman in Pröll's cabinet and, until his appointment as Director-General, worked in the cabinet of Finance Minister Dr. Maria Fekter.

Besides having a passion for his profession, Waiglein is also a keen musician.

"In Harald Waiglein, we have appointed a committed expert in economics and financial policy as our new Director-General. He will make an immense contribution on all levels, both professionally and in human terms," declared Finance Minister Fekter.
