Vienna, 25 January 2012 Gunter Mayr new Director-General at Ministry of Finance From 1 January 2012, university professor heads Tax Policy Directorate-General

Gunter Mayr is the new head of Directorate-General VI – Tax Policy & Tax Law at the Ministry of Finance. Mayr spent six years working as an assistant to Professor Doralt and Professor Beiser at Innsbruck University, obtained his doctorate in 2003, and then moved to the Ministry of Finance, where in 2006 he became head of the income and corporation-tax department. In 2010, be became head of the group "Tax Law", and now finally, with effect from 1 January, has been appointed a Director-General.

Mayr , who celebrates his 40th birthday on 25 January, can already look back on an extraordinary academic career. The specialist subject of this university professor and doctor in two subjects (law and economics) is corporate and income tax. He will indeed continue to teach the subject to a limited extent at Vienna University, where he has held a professorship at the Institute of Finance Law since 2009.

Mayr is not only passionate about tax law, but is also a passionate sportsman, having once been runner-up in the junior European taekwondo championships.
