Vienna, 19.05.2017 Forum Finanz: Asian Development Outlook 2017

The Austrian Ministry of Finance held its “Forum Finanz” expert panel discussion again on 19 May 2017. The presentations this time concerned the Asian Development Outlook for 2017.

The annual Asian development outlook analyses economic performance in the previous year and provides forecasts for the following two years for 45 economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Under the moderation of Kurt Bayer (Member of the Managing Board of the Austrian Development Bank), presentations on the topic of Asian development were made by Yasuyuki Sawada (Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank), Robert Stehrer (Scientific Director of the Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies) and Alexander Schwab (Head of Market Management and Corporate Communications and Media Spokesperson for Andritz Hydro GmbH). Directorate head Harald Waiglein gave the opening address and welcomed the expert audience.

In summary, Asia has shown impressive growth. In the space of one generation, Asia has developed from one of the poorest continents in the world to one of the richest. Innovation, investments in human capital and good infrastructure are undoubtedly the key factors driving this increase in economic capacity. The speakers analysed Asia's future opportunities and challenges in a stimulating discussion with the audience.
