Vienna, 08.02.2019 FinanzOnline sees tenfold increase in subscribers since year of launch

In 2018, the Austrian tax administration's e-Government portal had around 4.8 million subscribers

For around 15 years now, FinanzOnline has been enabling both Austrian citizens and business operators to have electronic access to the Austrian tax administration via 24-hour one-click internet access.
The figures speak for themselves: since its inception, the number of FON subscribers has multiplied tenfold, from approximately 490,000 in 2004 to 4.8 million in 2018; of these, 4.2 million are private individuals, and around 560,000 registered businesses.

From 2016 to 2017 alone, FON recorded an increase in personal users of approximately 240,000. From 2017 to 2018, the number of subscribers grew from a total of 4.5 million to 4.8 million customers. With personal users, there was an increase from  EUR 4,023,470 (2017) to 4,243,944 (2018), while with business users, numbers rose from 524,790 (2017) to 556,176 (2018).

In terms of log-ins to http://www.finanzonline.at/, last year also saw a new record: between January and December 2018, users logged in a total of approximately 63 million times. The busiest month was March 2018, with approximately 8.4 million log-ins. This peak can be explained on the basis that companies are required to transmit their pay statements by the end of February. Only after the end of February does it make sense for employees to submit their own tax returns for the previous year.

"I am gratified that we have achieved such a success story with FinanzOnline over such a long period already. The whole process can be undertaken electronically, from online submission of tax returns to assessment notices and data box delivery," declared Austrian Finance Minister Hartwig Löger, affirming his confidence in Austria's e-Government flagship. "The electronic tax file in FinanzOnline offers the facility for taxpayers, businesses and tax agents to access their tax information at any time. FinanzOnline is a unique high-level service," added Löger.

"Naturally, our aim is to keep on improving our services. For instance, last year we succeeded in adding new notification services; provided we hold a current user e-mail address, users receive notifications informing them of the current processing status of their employee tax returns or their monthly payments of family benefits," explained Löger.

Löger has announced yet further improvements for 2019 too: "We are working to achieve a contemporary look and feel for FinanzOnline as well as on simplifications in terms of user-friendliness. For the moment, in this context we are focusing on the target group of personal users. I will ensure I keep you up to date on progress through the year," promised Austria's Finance Minister, in conclusion.
