Vienna, 20.09.2017 Schelling: Committed on all levels to fair taxation of the digital economy

Vienna (OTS) - "In order to achieve quicker results in connection with the introduction of digital offices, work should be undertaken not only on a multilateral level at the OECD, and at European level," declared Austrian Finance Minister Hans Jörg Schelling on Wednesday, following an EU Council meeting.

Using his negotiating mandate, Schelling is also keen to exhaust all bilateral opportunities for achieving rapid results. Since Ireland currently hosts the most important digital companies operating in Europe, power to negotiate the double taxation agreement with Ireland forms a key component of the plan to close tax evasion routes. The objective of these negotiations is to incorporate the concept of a digital office in the double taxation agreement with Ireland in order to enable corresponding taxation of "digital" profit in Austria.

"This marks a further important stage in our plan to close tax loopholes," concluded Schelling.
