Key handover takes place at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance

Hartwig Löger and Hubert Fuchs received the keys to the Austrian Ministry of Finance from Hans Jörg Schelling on Monday

During the traditional key handover in the Austrian Ministry of Finance, the outgoing Minister Hans Jörg Schelling handed over the keys to the Ministry to the new Minister of Finance Hartwig Löger and future State Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Finance Hubert Fuchs. The new Minister of Finance Hartwig Löger thanked Hans Jörg Schelling for the service he provided during the last three years: “Hans Jörg Schelling initiated many reforms that will last long after his period of office. These include the tax reform, rapid resolution of the HETA situation and the associated stabilisation of the Austrian financial market, and introduction of a uniform system of accounting for the federal and state governments”, stated the Minister of Finance. Hartwig Löger also praised the ideal preparations performed by his predecessor: “I am taking over a well-prepared ministry. The staff and premises are perfectly organised.” He believes the Ministry of Finance will continue to play a major role in implementing the new government programme. “Our goal is to achieve savings in the system, not savings at the expense of the people. When helping taxpayers, it is the amount left over at the end of the month that is important, not simply the person’s net pay. Every inefficiency has to be found and eliminated”, according to Löger.

State Secretary Huber Fuchs is also moving into the Ministry of Finance. “Tax law has to be made easier and fairer. This will be done by recodifying the Income Tax Act. Payroll accounting will also be dramatically simplified at the same time”, stated the new State Secretary Fuchs.
