Express Answer Service (EAS)

As early as in 1991 the Division for International Tax Affairs in the Federal Ministry of Finance (Division IV/4) started a special service relating to inquiries from Austrian taxpayers about international tax cases. The replies given by the Division for International Tax Affairs, which became known as EAS ("Express Answer Service"), are greatly appreciated by taxpayers and reflect the general position of the Federal Ministry of Finance in relation to international tax cases. The replies have been published in the German language for the general public and some of them have also been discussed in international publications about tax treaty matters. Meanwhile the number of inquiries and answers has risen to more than 2,800.

Since 2006 these so-called EAS replies have been made accessible to the general public (in German only) in the Federal Ministry's Legal and Technical Information Database "FINDOK" under http://findok.bmf.gv.at/findok/freie_suche.do
