Educational Offerings

Basic education

The Austrian Financial Authority attaches considerable importance to a basic education in which colleagues are provided with important basic information and an overview of the corresponding administrative field. There is a total of 3 basic educational branches – Tax, Customs, General Services – which are governed in the Federal Ministry of Finance regulation concerning the basic education and training of employees in the departments of the Ministry (basic educational regulation, BMF), BGBI. II no. 308/2009 of 29 th September 2009.

Within the scope of a practical period of training lasting about 12 months, the tasks and activities in all the departments of the authorities are learnt on the job and consolidated during the theoretical training at the BFA. The knowledge and skills gained within the scope of the basic training are then tested in written and oral professional examinations which must be taken within two years in order to join the Financial Authority.

Operational training

Operational training supplements the basic training and consolidates the knowledge previously learned. Participation in the operational training is generally obligatory in order to be able to guarantee the uniform quality standard of the employees. Operational training is available for all areas of field work and for the special units in the tax and customs administration.

Further training

The further training offers represent the most extensive part of the educational activities in the Ministry. They assist the individual teams in the upkeep and the further development of their professional expertise and assist the individual departments in ensuring the uniform application of the law. In addition to this, all areas of personal development – adapted to the corresponding functions – are covered by attractive offers.

Differing methods are applied in the area of further training, with a strong focus on the area of Web 2.0. In recognition of the importance of sound interpersonal communications, a balanced combination of presence-seminars and E-learning is offered.
