Curriculum Vitae

Reinhold Lopatka was born on 27 January 1960 in the Styrian town of Vorau. In 1978 he graduated from high school in Oberschützen. Then Lopatka started studying theology and law at Karl-Franzens-University in Graz, where he earned his PhD in 1982, passing with distinction in all subjects.

After finishing military service, he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Canon Law of the Law Department of Karl-Franzens-University. From 1983 to 1991 he was party chairman of the Styrian branch of the Austrian Popular Party (ÖVP) and from 1984 to 1990 he was the deputy chairman of the national branch of the youth wing of the ÖVP. From 1989 to 1996 he was the managing ÖVP party district chairman in Hartberg.

In September 1986 Lopatka was elected to the Styrian legislature and sworn in as Styria’s youngest legislator. In November 2000 he was unanimously elected caucus chairman.

From 11 January 2007 to 2 December 2008 Reinhold Lopatka held the position of a State Secretary within the Federal Chancellery. On 2 December 2008 he was sworn in as State Secretary within the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Reinhold Lopatka has three sons and is a passionate marathon runner.
