How to use the library
The library is freely accessible to the public. You are asked to give prior notice of your visit. It is necessary for visitors to produce photographic ID (official ID, student ID).

Library holdings
The library currently has holdings encompassing approx. 200,000 volumes and approx. 750 domestic and foreign specialist journals on the following subject matter areas:

- Public administration

- Credit sector
- Insurance sector
The library does not provide any legal advice (e.g. information on tax files).
With total holdings of approx. 200,000 volumes, the library’s historical book holdings (prior to 1900) constitute approx. 50,000 volumes, of which approx. 5,000 titles are unique items and/or rare books.

Mission statement of the library
The primary purpose of the library is to provide information and literature to the Central Management of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
History of the library
Austria’s most significant and comprehensive tax and finance library through the years:
- 1810: First reference to the existence of a library in the Hofkammer-Präsidium
- 1848: Dissolution of Hofkammer. Library is incorporated into newly established Ministry of Finance at Winterpalais Prinz Eugen, Himmelpfortgasse 8.
- 1947: Finance library is separated from finance archives.
- 2003: Introduction of electronic library management system Aleph; library is incorporated into the Austrian Academic Libraries Union.
- 2007: Beginning of general renovations to Palais Prinz Eugen. Finance Ministry, with library, is moved to Hintere Zollamtsstraße 2b.
- 2008: Beginning of targeted electronic retrospective conversion of library holdings prior to acquisition year 2003.
