Capital market initiatives

The global environment for capital markets has become increasingly more difficult. Although the Austrian stock market has held its own compared internationally, the global confidence crisis of the stock markets does have an impact.

In addition, raising capital via the stock exchange plays a lesser role in Austria compared with other European countries since corporate financing continues to avail itself of credits for the large part.

To stimulate the Austrian capital market, the federal government has created the function of a "Capital Market Representative" in order to coordinate the individual measures of the Austrian capital market initiative. This initiative focuses on creating confidence in the market. An Austrian Corporate Governance Code is one of the measures used to this purpose. Measures to increase traded securities volume are to be implemented as well.
