Weapons
You need a European Firearms Pass, which must list your weapon, as well as a permit for bringing the weapon with you, if you wish to bring a weapon and the ammunition for it from an EU country or Switzerland to Austria, or vice versa. Hunters and sporting marksmen, however, only need the European Firearms Pass when carrying with them a maximum of three weapons with ammunition. This does not apply to hand-guns carried by hunters.
When coming from a non-EU country, travellers who are domiciled in Austria may only import weapons if they can show their weapons pass or a weapon ownership care to the customs official. Travellers who are domiciled outside Austria require a permit to hold a weapon, pursuant to § 39 of the Austrian Weapons Act. You can get this permit at official Austrian representative offices abroad.
Please bear in mind that there is a general prohibition on the import of certain weapons (e.g. pump guns, knuckle-dusters).
