Data, Information and Preparation Centre

The staff of the Data, Information and Preparation Centre (DIAC) work around the clock. Their tasks have both national and international dimensions.

The national aspect of their work comprises support of the operational units in the field service (e.g. mobile units (OZA), customs investigations teams, the control of illegal employment (FinPol), and tax investigations). Management of deployments and various database searches are among their principal tasks. For authorities, too, in particular the security authorities, the DIAC serves as the first point of contact in matters of tax and customs administration.

Citizens, companies and business operators may also notify the DIAC of relevant facts (e.g. cigarette smuggling, illegal employment), anonymously if they wish. All details may be found under Contacts.

International customs operations, in which all Member States of the European Union and also third countries are involved, belong to the daily activities of mobile units (OZA) and the customs investigation services in Austria. Combating cigarette smuggling and product forgeries is at the forefront of such work. Here, DIAC acts as a national point of contact between the control bodies in Austria and the respective European deployment management. During the course of an operation, important information reported to Austria by other European customs administrations is passed on and the control measures are coordinated.
