Action days
Since 2004, “action days” have constituted an integral element in the anti-fraud activities of the customs and finance authorities. The main purpose of these action days is to achieve general prevention of fraud by taking a nationwide approach, deploying large numbers of staff, and achieving a corresponding level of media coverage.
Further aspects of the action days are:
- improving cooperation among the individual organisational sections at the ministry
- gathering information on certain commercial processes in order to develop strategies to combat fraud
- to inform and warn certain corporate groups with respect to fraudulent activities in their immediate environment
- ascertaining the extent of suspected or alleged fraud patterns
Action days are carried out at various points over each year on a nationwide basis, and each of them is conducted in an at-risk business sector selected by the Federal Ministry of Finance. In order to be in a position to react to local and seasonal particularities, the five regional management offices also coordinate and carry out regional action days.
Experience to date has shown that reputable businesses favourably regard and welcome these action day investigations.
